With a new day comes yet another Lords of the Fallen patch. The folks at Hexworks certainly aren't resting on their laurels despite the game's positive commercial debut hinted by CI Games CEO Marek Tyminski on Twitter.

Today's patch (only around 72.7 MB on Steam) updates Lords of the Fallen to version 1.1.199, delivering a major fix for crashes occurring on AMD graphics cards. The game now skips Niagara compute shader dispatches when the thread count exceeds what the hardware supports. According to the development team, this fix might solve over 30% of the crashes registered through the Sentry tool. There are also many other crash fixes listed in the full changelog.

Patch 1.1.199 also aims to improve multiplayer matchmaking to fix 'cannot connect' messages and high-ping pairings that disrupt the Lords of the Fallen gameplay experience. Matchmaking might now take longer, but it should connect players to a session with better ping.

  • Adjusted multiplayer timings and pings to prioritize establishing a strong connection between players rather than reducing matchmaking times.
  • Disabled the Orian Protector feature temporarily to rework it with a more engaging gameplay loop. Previously, Orian Protectors would join a player being invaded to assist in the fight. However, this caused confusion among players and was reported as a bug multiple times. We are revisiting this feature to enhance its functionality.

Moreover, Hexworks mentioned crossplay multiplayer will be reintroduced to Lords of the Fallen when its stability in both PvP and PvE scenarios has been ensured. Patch 1.1.199 also makes a few minor balance tweaks.

In his review of Lords of the Fallen, Francesco De Meo lamented its poor balance and frustrating gameplay experience. However, if the developers can keep up with this pacing of updates, the game could be in much better shape in a few weeks.
