Kojima Productions’ First Title Is A PS4 Console Exclusive; Coming To PC Afterwards

Update: an official Q&A shared by PlayStation Europe's Community Manager has confirmed that the game will indeed make its way onto PC, though only after the PS4 release.

The title is planned to become available on PC (after PS4).

SCE also confirmed that they are not investing in Kojima Productions, while they will publish the game and provide support as necessary. The title itself is described as something "completely new" from Metal Gear and even Silent Hills.

Original story: Yesterday, we reported that Kojima Productions was in talks with Sony for Hideo Kojima's first title after leaving Konami. Today, Sony Computer Entertainment has announced the partnership: the new title will be a PlayStation 4 console exclusive.

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) today announced that it has signed an agreement with Kojima Productions, a newly formed studio by the acclaimed game designer Hideo Kojima, to develop its first software title as a console exclusive to the PlayStation®4 (PS4™) computer entertainment system.

Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., said:

PlayStation's history is one of game innovation and great new franchises. Hideo Kojima has been a huge part of that history, and we are therefore delighted that he has chosen to bring his brand new project to life in partnership with PlayStation. We look forward to working with him on an exciting new game and warmly welcome him to the PlayStation family.

Kojima himself added:

I will be taking on a new challenge by establishing my own independent studio, and I am thrilled to be able to embark on this journey with PlayStation, who I have continued to work with all these past years. I cannot wait to deliver, with PlayStation, a game that will become a compelling franchise.

PlayStation also prepared a short video chat with the Metal Gear creator in order to celebrate the occasion.

Of course, it's way too early to know any specifics about Kojima Productions' first game, but the team is hiring aggressively for multiple positions.

The wording of the press release is also a beacon of hope for PC players. Sony would have certainly made it clear if this game was meant to be a full PlayStation 4 exclusive; however, "console exclusive" almost assuredly means that we'll see the game on PC at some point.

This is nothing new for Sony, as history taught us in recent years. They don't see PC as a direct competitor and as a result, Street Fighter V and No Man's Sky will be released on both platforms at the same time.

Finally, Kojima Productions also posted a manifesto of sorts on their official website. Stay tuned on Wccftech to be always updated on Hideo Kojima's first game after his departure from Konami.
