iPhone SE 4 could be announced as early as next week

The 13-inch and 15-inch M4 MacBook Air lineup was previously reported to launch earlier than the iPad 11 and iPhone SE 4, but according to the latest update, Apple has had a change of heart and will choose to unveil its upcoming low-cost model as early as next week. This will be the first time the company’s in-house 5G is featured in any iPhone, which only means that it will be an exciting week as far as product announcements go.

Upcoming iPhone SE 4 could also be Apple’s most expensive ‘low-cost’ model to date, but a combination of improved hardware and features could justify that figure

The update was provided by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who also mentions the specifications of the iPhone SE 4 in the post on X below. For those not keeping up with previous reports, the details mention that the device will ship with an iPhone 14-like design and will feature an A18 chipset, along with a larger screen, a USB-C port for charging, and support for Apple Intelligence. If this particular model does gain the ability to run generative AI features, it means that the iPhone SE 4 will ship with 8GB RAM, putting it in the same weight class as the iPhone 16, at least in memory count.

Sadly, for those who prefer Apple's Dynamic Island, the iPhone SE 4 will not ship with it and instead rely on the older notch. Also, since Apple is only expected to announce a single low-cost model next week, the company will probably unveil the product through a press release, as a dedicated event seems pointless. One area that we are excited to see is the shift from Qualcomm’s 5G modem to Apple’s in-house solution. Given that the iPhone SE 4 is estimated to be priced between $499 and $549, such decisions were deemed necessary.

Even if the baseband chip’s performance is slower compared to Qualcomm’s offerings, it will matter little because no carrier in the world can reach such high downlink speeds, even when connected to mmWave nodes. As for the camera, two dummies in different colors revealed that the iPhone SE 4 will only have a single 48MP rear camera, along with a front-facing 12MP shooter, which will compromise on the image and video quality regarding versatility, but there needs to be some differentiation between this model and the iPhone 16. The rest of the details will be provided during the official announcement, so stay tuned.
