Apple has apparently shelved the iPhone SE 2, as it wants to focus all its attention on the three upcoming iPhone models. These comprise up of a 5.8-inch iPhone X successor, a massive OLED-touting 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus, and an affordable 6.1-inch LCD iPhone.

Citing Sources, the iPhone SE 2 Would Have Taken Design Cues From the iPhone X

Apple was earlier said to be working on a 4-inch second-generation iPhone SE that would draw inspiration from the iPhone X. It would have sported a notch and an all-screen design but would feature previous-generation internals in order to bring the costs down and offer a more affordable mobile computing solution to customers.

It was expected that Apple would announce the iPhone SE 2 in the spring of 2018. Some sources even claimed that Apple may announce the new iPhone SE model at WWDC in early June, which would have been a little out of place as WWDC is characteristically a software-centered keynote.

However, no announcement was made regarding the next generation iPhone SE and it was assumed that Apple will introduce the iPhone SE 2 along with the other three iPhones lineup for release this fall. However, Forbes has reported that case maker Olixar has revealed that Apple is no longer pursuing the iPhone SE 2 as the company wants to give its undivided attention to the three iPhones due to be released in fall of 2018.

The sources cited also called the iPhone SE 2 the ‘iPhone X Mini’, further confirming that the phone would have taken design cues from the iPhone X. The second-gen iPhone SE would have catered to fans who still like smaller smartphones but want to take advantage of the additional firepower. The trend of bezel-less smartphones has allowed manufacturers to fit bigger displays in smaller bodies and not many of them are concentrating on 4-inch devices.

However, Apple was still not willing to let go of this size. At this point, this is all speculation and we will have to wait till September to find out if the iPhone SE 2 will see daylight this year or not. If you still want to learn about the iPhone SE 2, you can read all the rumors, preliminary specs, features and more here.
