iPhone Fold launch to change foldable smartphone dynamics of one market
It's going to be a painful Q4 2026 for Samsung and others, at least when their foldable smartphones are concerned

The small amount of success that companies like Samsung, Motorola, and Google are enjoying in the U.S. will be put to a screeching halt thanks to Apple and its iPhone Fold launch that’s slated for a launch later this year. As the Cupertino firm prepares an initial stock of 11 million units, the latest data states that the North American market is about to witness a major change in dynamics, all thanks to the iPhone Fold. In short, various Android foldable smartphone manufacturers had better come up with a plan and fast to counter the impending release.

New estimates claim the iPhone Fold will capture 46 percent of the U.S. foldable smartphone market, while every other competitor will suffer

The foldable smartphone market is expected to grow 48 percent year-over-year, according to Counterpoint Research, but the majority of this growth isn’t going to favor the three current major players in this sector, Samsung, Google, and Motorola. In fact, the newest estimates reveal that the aforementioned companies will all witness a decline in their market share shortly after the arrival of the iPhone Fold.

Following its launch, Apple is estimated to witness a massive market share bump to 46 percent, while Samsung, which commanded more than half of the region’s market at 51 percent, will see that figure drop to 29 percent. Motorola is also expected to lose miserably after the arrival of the iPhone Fold, with its market share dropping from 44 percent to 23 percent. Google, which has yet to put its foot out of the door with a measly 5 percent market share, will see that number drop to negligible levels at 3 percent.

Despite the fact that the iPhone Fold will have a ludicrous base price of $2,000, the magnetic effect of Apple’s brand name carries a ton of weight, not to mention the seamless software integration that the company has formed between its iPhones and other products to amplify the user experience. The iPhone Fold is also expected to ship with ‘state of the art’ internal specifications, such as its first 2nm chipset, the A20 Pro, not to mention the first in-house mmWave 5G baseband silicon, the C2, and the largest battery capacity ever in Apple’s mobile phones.

However, by far the most impressive aspect of the iPhone Fold is its crease-less display, and while we know that OPPO’s Find N6 claims have crashed and burned, claiming to feature a similar panel to Apple’s foldable flagship, the California-based titan aims to eliminate this problem with a variety of techniques, with the most unorthodox method being the use of glue.
