Apple could finally be ready to launch an iPhone with no notch, no Dynamic Island, and no cutouts on the screen, but it will take a few years for the company to achieve this. We have previously heard that the company is working on an all-screen iPhone, and based on the latest information, the iPhone maker would begin working on the feat starting next year, making this year’s iPhone a thing of the past. The company will implement advanced under-display technology with the 2026 iPhone Fold to keep the display free of intrusions, while replacing Face ID with Touch ID, possibly baked into the power button, but it could take some time for the technology to be fully ready.
Apple is preparing its first foldable iPhone with a slimmer design and in-display camera, marking a major design shift
In a new analyst report from JPMorgan, seen by 9to5Mac, next year’s iPhone is getting a pretty major makeover with the front camera moving under the display for the first time ever. For years, Apple has been moving towards an all-screen design and the company’s plans began almost a decade ago in 2017 with the launch of the iPhone X. The company then shrank the notch down with the iPhone 13 lineup before switching completely to Dynamic Island.
Analysts believe that Apple will take a step-by-step approach. The first version not being perfect and could have limitations, especially with the under-display camera. Over time, more of the Face ID components could also be hidden under the display making the iPhone look even cleaner. Some reports say that it may take until 2028 or even 2030 before we see a completely perfected all-screen design.
If Apple manages to introduce an in-display camera sensor with the iPhone Fold next year, it would be a big shift in iPhone design. The company has always focused on making the display the centerpiece of the device, and this change would take the idea to the next level. With in-display sensors, users would find no distractions on the screen, which would ultimately enhance the gaming and content consumption experience.
We are also expecting the iPhone Fold to be significantly thinner than the current models, potentially matching the thickness of the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The hinge of the device would be made of stronger metal, giving the device improved durability over the aluminum finish on the iPhone 17 lineup. It would be the beginning of a new era for the company and it will change the way customers use the iPhone. Would you switch to the foldable iPhone from your iPhone 17 Pro?
