Apple's iPhon Fold will cost $1,000 more than current Pro Max model and 10 percent more than Galaxy Z Fold

Apple's iPhone Fold will be its entry into the foldable market, and while the company is late to the party, a hefty price tag could prevent it from becoming the mainstream product for many. A leaker shares that the foldable iPhone or the iPhone Fold will cost roughly $1,000 more than today's 'Pro Max' version of the iPhone.

Apple's first foldable iPhone could cost as much as $2,199 for the base model, $1,000 more than the base iPhone 16 Pro Max

We have previously reported that the iPhone Fold will cost upwards of $2,000, which is roughly the same figure as the recent leak. A Chinese leaker who goes by the name of Instant Digital on Weibo claims that Apple's first foldable iPhone will cost $1,000 more than the 'Pro Max' version of the iPhone today (via MacRumors). The base version of the iPhone 16 Pro Max is priced at $1,199, which means that the iPhone Fold could be priced as much as $2,199 for the base model and could go as high as $2,599, depending on the storage variant.

Additionally, the leaker also claims that the device will be 10 percent more expensive than Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 6, which is priced at $1,899.99. On the flip side, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 costs $1,219.99. The iPhone Fold is expected to feature a design similar to the Galaxy Z Fold lineup, with a 7.8-inch internal display and a 5.6-inch external display. If the news has any heft to it, the foldable iPhone could be priced $200 to $400 higher than that of the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

The iPhone Fold has remained a mystery for years, and it is now shaping up to be quite a contender against the Galaxy Z Fold and the Google Pixel Fold. The device is slated to launch by the end of next year or early in 2027, considering mass production begins in the second half of 2026. The iPhone Fold is also expected to feature Touch ID in the Power Button, but a leaker also previously claimed that Apple is also testing in-display Face ID sensors, which will probably be part of the larger 18.8-inch foldable iPad from Apple.

Apple took its time with the foldable device as it wanted to perfect the crease on the display and based on recent reports, Samsung Display has been given an exclusive contract for the job, while companies like LG and BOE have remained out of the equation. Instant Digital has a mixed track record when it comes to sharing details on unreleased Apple products, so be sure to take the news with a grain of salt. We will update you as soon as further information is available on the device.
