An annual consumer survey taken by research firm Evercore reveals some sensible choices that buyers are making with Apple’s iPhone 17 lineup this year, such as preferring the ‘Pro’ models because of their RAM upgrade, though one can argue that there are other impressive hardware additions that should make the cut. Also, the iPhone Air, which has so far garnered some positive reception, is not on the bucket list for the majority of these customers.
Less than 10 percent of surveyed buyers plan on getting the iPhone Air, but the number of consumers asked about their preference is far too small to get an idea of the overall picture
In a new investor’s note spotted by AppleInsider, Evercore analysts surveyed 4,000 consumers on their preferred iPhone 17 model this year. As you can guess, 56 percent of those participating said that they were planning to either purchase an iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone 17 Pro Max, but less than 400 of them had any intentions of making the iPhone Air their daily driver.
“This success is chiefly based on the firm’s latest annual consumer survey. Evercore analysts say that they asked nearly 4,000 consumers in the US about their intentions over buying the new iPhone — and the iPhone Air was the only disappointment.”
However, analysts believe that the lack of interest generated for the iPhone Air stems from the consumers’ skepticism surrounding the poor battery life and the limited versatility provided by the single rear camera. It should be noted that, based on Apple’s battery runtime comparison, the iPhone Air lasts longer than the iPhone 16 Plus and iPhone 16 Pro, so it is surprising that even with the data present in black and white, potential buyers have a negative impression of the sleek flagship.
Also, the number of surveyed consumers is far too less to deliver an overall picture for the iPhone 17’s demand, but that is only because the respondents hailed from the U.S. According to a previous estimate, Apple is expected to ship 100 million units this year, but the iPhone Air was said to be produced in the lowest volume from that figure, indicating that the company could just be experimenting with this release as a test bed for future product launches bearing the same thinness.
