Apple is slated to launch its thinnest iPhone ever later this year alongside the iPhone 17 Pro models. The device will potentially measure in at just 5.5mm, but it will not be the thinnest product from Apple, as the 13-inch iPad Pro holds the record for that at 5.1mm. We have previously reported that the iPhone 17 Air will feature a 6.6-inch display, which could be to prevent the device from bending, but based on a new report, Apple will launch the iPhone 19 Air in 2027 with a larger display, possibly to keep up with the "Pro" models.
Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 19 Air in 2027 with a larger display, positioning it as a slimmer alternative to the Pro models
In a new set of speculations for Apple's iPhone lineup, Ming-Chi Kuo states that the 2027 iPhone 19 Air will come with a larger display as part of the device's evolution. The analyst also highlighted a handful of additional details on the company's iPhone lineup, including the iPhone 17e launching next year and the second generation of foldable iPhones coming in 2027.
Apple appears to be making the 'Air' model an annual upgrade, which is in line with the company's standard and 'Pro' models. It was recently reported by The Information that Apple will space out iPhone launches, which means that the more expensive devices will be released in the Fall while the comparatively cheaper standard variant of the iPhone will be released in the Spring. The company is opting for this approach to streamline the devices and possibly boost sales.
Kuo has not detailed the dimensions of the iPhone 19 Air but clearly states that it will have "a larger display vs. 18 Slim." Kuo repeatedly used the 'Slim' naming scheme, but we will know for sure what the company calls it later this year, in September. We would like to believe that Apple sticks with the 'Air' moniker as it is more streamlined than the rest of the products.
In terms of size, the iPhone 17 Air will be larger than the standard variants but smaller than the 'Pro' model, which will measure 6.9 inches. Apple is looking to expand the iPhone lineup with a new budget and a special 'Air' model, adding to the existing four models in the lineup. The expanded product line is why the company opts for a segregated launch. For instance, the iPhone 18 Pro models are slated to launch in the Fall, while the standard models will be launched a few months later in the Spring.
The analyst also believes that the second generation of the iPhone Fold will be released in the Fall alongside the larger iPhone 19 Air model. It remains to be seen if the company will implement any design changes. We will share more details on Kuo's speculations soon, so be sure to stick around.
