A multitude of claims surrounding Apple’s iPhone 18 series were doing the rounds even before the company unveiled the iPhone 17 family at its ‘Awe Dropping’ event. On this occasion, a tipster has revealed the display sizes of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, which will remain unchanged from their direct predecessors, but states that we should prepare for a small design change from the backside that involves making it more transparent.

New rumor mentions stainless steel vapor chamber for the iPhone 18 Pro, but since the new lineup is still a year away, Apple could drastically change the design of its flagship devices

The tipster Digital Chat Station has previously mentioned on Weibo that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max would feature a 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display size, with the possibility that both handsets would ship with a punch-hole cutout instead of a pill-shaped one, signaling a jump to a new design, at least from the front side. Now, based on the latest post on the micro-blogging social network, next year’s flagships will share many attributes belonging to the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, such as the rear rectangular bump, but a slightly transparent back could be new to the iPhone 18 Pro, assuming the rumor is legit.

This aesthetic shift has been experimented with by Apple’s Android smartphone rivals previously, with users able to visibly see the components from the back. With the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, this change could make the MagSafe charging coils appear more prominent. However, it should be noted that this approach has existed as third-party customization options for years, and looking at Apple’s design practices, this change is not parallel to the company’s reputation, so it may be just experimenting with some iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max design prototypes.

The tipster also talks about a stainless steel vapor chamber for the newer models, with Apple introducing this passive cooler for the first time in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. What is interesting is that different manufacturers have always employed copper because it is an excellent conductor of heat, so there is no confirmation as to why Apple would shift to this material. Assuming that the firm wants to adopt a stainless steel vapor chamber that will also double as a backplate for increased structural integrity, we cannot see why the same goal cannot be achieved with copper.

While Digital Chat Station has been correct in the past, his claims are not foolproof. The information he received is likely from some extremely early design prototypes that Apple is experimenting with, meaning that the actual iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max units entering full-scale production could be vastly different. As always, we will provide routine updates, so stay tuned.
