Xiaomi’s teaser for the upcoming Xiaomi 17 Pro has sparked interest with a surprising design twist, a rear display built right into the camera plateau. The company shared a short video on Weibo, showcasing the phone’s rear design, which resembles a lot like the iPhone 17 Pro’s camera bar design. However, what’s different is a functional secondary display on the back of the Xiaomi 17 Pro, allowing users to see dedicated information at a glance.
Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro plateau design seems mirrored in Xiaomi 17 Pro, but Magic Back Screen adds a bold twist
The highlight is called the Magic Back Screen, which can show a clock, images, widgets, and even a camera viewfinder. Take note that Xiaomi has already tested the rear display on the Mi 11 Ultra, but that version was much smaller, coming in at just 1.1 inches, and it was a lot simpler in terms of functionality as well. The new teaser suggests a larger, more useful panel on the back that extends around the camera bump, almost wrapping around it, which could bring more creative use cases.
The teaser puts some of the aforementioned features in action, like the live camera preview option, which would make taking selfies or high-quality shots with the rear camera easier when flipping the phone. This time around, Xiaomi’s implementation not only functions properly but looks a lot better as well. You can check out the teaser in the Weibo post.
Xiaomi has experimented with a lot of designs in the past, and some unique ones have really made the company what it is today, but this particular design is pretty reminiscent of a design that Apple just introduced. The iPhone 17 Pro also has a giant camera bar at the back, which the company is calling the “plateau” as it stretches from one end of the device to the other.
While Xiaomi’s rendition is still a teaser, Apple’s new design language will be launched in a matter of days, as the new models were announced last week. As for what’s different, the Xiaomi 17 Pro features a dual camera setup at the back, in contrast to a triple camera array on the iPhone 17 Pro. Potentially, this has freed up ample space on the back of the device for a miniaturized display.
Xiaomi has already teased sharper images of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max rear display, but the teaser has since been removed. The device is also expected to be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 5 chipset, which will ensure performance on par with Apple’s A19 Pro chip. We will share additional details on the subject, so do stick around. Do you think Apple is leading the industry in terms of design? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
