This is probably the closest we will ever look at a real-life iPhone 17 Pro Max

The ‘Awe Dropping’ keynote will start in less than two days, and like clockwork, the leaks surrounding Apple’s flagship devices continue to come through. However, throughout these months, we have only stumbled across individual parts, such as milled chassis, flex cables, camera assembly, battery covers, dummies, and more, but we have never once laid our eyes on any physical units, likely because Apple has done an exceptional job keeping things under wraps. Then again, there was the time when the company’s iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max were spotted being tested on the streets, and now, a tipster has shown the top-end model’s engineering samples in two colors from the backside.

Latest iPhone 17 Pro Max samples are shown in the colors orange and dark, but only the rear camera cluster and the bump are visible

The images were shared by PhoneArt, who was previously known on X as Ice Universe. On his account, he shared two pictures and claimed that these were engineering samples of the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Both of these pictures have been zoomed in, and since they have been uploaded on a social media network, there is some notable quality loss. The person who sent the tipster these images likely wanted to keep his or her identity safe, and sending an image of the entire iPhone 17 Pro Max unit might have compromised that anonymity, because the background can reveal a ton of intricate details.

During the final days before the iPhone 17 event, Apple is likely keeping a close eye on these leaks, and such incidents can lead to the immediate employment termination of the person if they are not extra careful. Coming back to the images, you can clearly see the rear bump, which is exclusive to the ‘Pro’ models and indicates that Apple is finally bringing a design change plus some welcome camera upgrades. Unfortunately, none of these pictures hints that the company is switching to aluminum from titanium, so we will have to wait for the official event to learn about this transition.

We also believe that, in addition to Apple bringing more exclusive features to the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, launching more vibrant colors is another strategy to encourage customers to upgrade compared to the bland finishes we witness each year. We certainly hope there are more leaks like this, so stay tuned.
