The iPhone 17 Pro will come with an all-new design featuring a camera bar on the back, giving the device a completely different look from the current models. A leaker has now shared dummy units of the iPhone 17 lineup, showcasing what users should be looking forward to. At first glance, it can be seen that the company is finally moving away from its conventional design that launched all the way back with the iPhone 11.
Dummy units show Apple's part-glass design coupled with MagSafe for the entire iPhone 17 lineup
While we have previously seen dummy units of the iPhone 17 Pro, the latest ones are a bit different. Sonny Dickson shared an image of the dummy units on X, and one thing you can clearly see on the device is an outline on the back that exists below the camera bar. We have previously reported that Apple could launch its latest iPhone 17 models with a part-aluminum, part-glass design, and the outline is "where the glass will change."
As mentioned, the iPhone 17 Pro models will be made from a combination of materials, specifically a rectangular portion of glass in the middle of the device, which is potentially embedded into the chassis to retain MagSafe and wireless charging capabilities. The glass area will rest in the same space as the Apple logo, and the MagSafe outline on the dummy units also highlights that Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models will house magnets underneath the complex glass and aluminum build.

The Information previously reported that Apple is opting for a part-aluminum, part-glass design to enhance the device's durability. This means the company sees fit to replace the titanium frame on the current models with an aluminum build. Apple introduced the titanium finish with the launch of the iPhone 15 Pro models, and it has only been two generations before Apple reverts back to aluminum.
Apart from the new materials, Apple is also planning to launch the entire iPhone 17 lineup, except for the standard variant, with a new camera bar design on the back. The iPhone 17 Pro models, in particular, will house a bigger camera bar featuring a triple-lens camera setup, a LiDAR scanner, and an LED flash. On the iPhone 17 Air, the design will retain the camera bar but will only house a single-lens camera sensor coupled with an LED flash and a microphone.
Apple could be working to revamp the iPhone 17 Pro design due to its lack of innovation in the past, which has resulted in poor sales in some regions, including China. Moreover, the new design could also be a conscious choice to shift people's focus away from Apple's inability to release Apple Intelligence features on time. We will be keeping a close eye on the design of the new products, so be sure to stick around.
