iPhone 17 Plus to feature smaller display

This year's iPhone 16 lineup will get some notable improvements in design and how users use the device, as the company aims to integrate generative AI technology with the release of iOS 18 later this year. Apple is keen to increase the screen size of the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max this year, while the standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will house the same display as the current models. A prominent analyst is now claiming that the iPhone 17 Plus will come with a smaller display size that will sit between the screen size of the 'Pro' models.

iPhone 17 Plus to take a step back as Apple plans a smaller display on the device compared to the current models

The iPhone 17 lineup will launch next year, and rumors pertaining to the flagship handsets have already started pouring in, as the iPhone 17 Plus is reported to come with a smaller display compared to the iPhone 15 Plus and the upcoming iPhone 16 Plus. The rumor is quite strange as the company launched the bigger variant of its standard iPhone after the iPhone 'mini' lineup failed miserably in the past when it comes to sales.

According to display analyst Ross Young, Apple plans to introduce the iPhone 17 Plus with a reduction in screen size compared to the current and older models of the 'Plus' iPhone. As strange as it may sound, Ross Young has a solid track record of sharing accurate information related to Apple products. Currently, the iPhone 15 Plus and the forthcoming iPhone 16 Plus will come with a 6.7-inch display, which is the same as the 'Pro Max' model in the lineup.

While the analyst did not mention what we should expect, he did mention that the screen size would rest between the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. This means that the iPhone 17 Plus could come with a display size that rests between 6.3 and 6.9 inches. We are not aware why the company could be looking to reduce the screen size, but it appears that the 'Plus' iPhone and the 'Pro Max' have a lot in common as Apple aims to reduce the similarities between the two.

The company is already expected to introduce a bigger screen on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, which would create the gap we have mentioned earlier, but further reducing the screen size could have something to do with the 'Plus' model itself. Possibly, Apple's survey could have indicated that the iPhone 16 Plus will not have a major impact on the demand for the device as users prefer the standard 6.1-inch model.

We suspect that the iPhone 17 Plus could feature a screen size of 6.5 inches that sits well between the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max, but note that these are mere speculations at this stage as the final word rests with Apple. Moreover, it is too early to conclude as the device will not launch for another 18 months, and the company could be testing a version of the device ahead of its final decision.
