Developers can now start testing out the newest iOS 26 beta 2, and those who immediately pounced on this software dissection process may have also rigorously sifted through the code of the latest update. Fresh details talk about the potential resolution of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Air, hinting at a new display size. The company is scheduled to abandon the iPhone 17 Plus in favor of a slimmer form factor later this year, and we may have stumbled upon new specifications of the device, so let's dive in.
The new resolution of the iPhone 17 Air could be 2,736 x 1,260, which is not running on any other iPhone model
Apple is still months away from officially announcing the iPhone 17 series, and prior to the unveiling, references to one model were found in the latest beta. On this occasion, Macworld discovered that in iOS 26 beta 2, a newer version of the classic iconic clownfish wallpaper sports a resolution of ‘420×912@3x,’ which brings us to 1,260 × 2,736 pixels, or 2,736 × 1,260, whichever way you want to measure these figures.
What is interesting about this resolution is that no other iPhone model’s display resonates with these pixels, hinting that we could be looking at the iPhone 17 Air’s specifications. The report also mentions that TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that the ultra-slim flagship will feature a 6.6-inch screen size and a 2,740 x 1,260 resolution, so the previous measurements come very close to the updated numbers.
The iPhone 17 Air is expected to be the world’s thinnest model launched by Apple, with a thickness measuring just 5.5mm. Unfortunately, achieving this sleek form factor will not be without its consequences, as the device is said to feature an embarrassingly small 2,800mAh battery, with Apple reportedly developing a separate battery accessory so users can get additional runtime.
