Apple has already been rumored to introduce a price hike to the more premium iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which would be the first time in six years that the company is bringing a change in the monetary value of its flagships. Unfortunately, one report alleges that customers may end up paying more than previously anticipated, up to $200 extra, depending on the model they intend to purchase.
Unsurprisingly, the iPhone 15 Pro Max price will reportedly increase by $200
Going deeper into the report published by Economic Daily News, the price hike will be in the $100-$200 range, with customers possibly paying $100 more for the iPhone 15 Pro and $200 more for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. To be fair, it was only a matter of time before Apple would be forced to increase prices because, with each generation of iPhones, we see newer technologies in the form of fingernail-sized chips, improved cameras, advanced displays, and more.
These chips cost millions to research, develop, and reduce to a size that can fit in an iPhone while accommodating other components. With the iPhone 15 Pro Max, it will be Apple’s first flagship to feature a periscope zoom lens, with the ‘Pro’ models exclusively shipping with the 3nm A17 Bionic also adding to the overall bill. To remind you, the A16 Bionic found in last year’s iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max cost Apple $110 per chip.
Seeing as how the A17 Bionic is said to be mass produced on a cutting-edge node, those costs will undoubtedly increase, leaving the technology giant with little headroom to maintain the same retail price as it has done for several years now. With the rumored price changes, the iPhone 15 Pro could start from $1,099 in the U.S., while the top-tier iPhone 15 Pro Max could start from $1,299, which is the starting price of the 15-inch M2 MacBook Air.
Our take is that Apple may not be as aggressive with the price hike as this report suggests; at the most, we may see a $100 increase. Of course, we would be surprised if the iPhone 15 ‘Pro’ models ship with the same $999 and $1,099 starting price, but as always, we will update our readers on a timely basis, so stay tuned.
