Three iPhone 15 Models Secured The Top Three Positions For Best-Selling Smartphones In The World During The Q2 2024 Quarter

Best-selling smartphone models globally for the Q2 2024 period were iPhone 15

Apple continues to lag behind Samsung when discussing the volume of smartphone shipments in Q2 2024, but when talking about the best-selling models globally, the newest research reveals that three of the technology giant’s iPhone 15 models secured the top three positions. The Korean firm still has some bragging rights, as its premier Galaxy S24 Ultra occupied the lower spot, with the less pricey models finding a higher rank. Interestingly, a smartphone model from Xiaomi made it to the list, making it for a slightly different result compared to Q2 2023.

Samsung had some success, but its top-end Galaxy S24 Ultra was only the ninth best-seller, with the others being the less expensive offerings

The iPhone 15 Pro Max packs more features than the base iPhone 15, such as a titanium build, additional cameras, a tetraprism telephoto rear unit, a crisp OLED screen with support of up to a 120Hz refresh rate, and more. However, Counterpoint Research reports that Apple’s top-end model garnered 3.7 percent of overall sales for Q2 2024. The iPhone 15, on the other hand, dominated with a 4.1 percent market share, and in third position, we have the iPhone 15 Pro. It is unsurprising to see the iPhone 15 Plus missing from the list, especially when the only perks of making it your daily driver included a larger display.

It lacked the flagship features of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and with its overly expensive price, the majority of potential buyers would be discouraged from upgrading to it. The previous-generation iPhone 14 made it to the list by securing sixth place with a 1.6 percent share, making it higher than the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Samsung’s ‘golden boy’ flagship garnered 1.4 percent of total sales, occupying the ninth spot, making it lower than the Galaxy A15 5G and the Galaxy A15 4G rankings, both of which are entry-level smartphones and have seized the fourth and fifth spot, respectively.

A new member in the global best-selling list is Xiaomi’s Redmi 13C 4G, which has managed to crawl one position above the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Counterpoint Research has also noted an interesting detail from these figures. While the number of premium smartphones in the top 10 list for Q2 2024 stayed the same compared to Q2 2023, their cumulative sales as a share of the global smartphone market fell by about 1.5 percent. This decline can be attributed to the Galaxy S24 Ultra and iPhone 15 struggling to get sufficient momentum going in China, which is largely dominated by the likes of Huawei and Vivo.

Also, we firmly believe that the trend of generative AI-powered smartphones will play a paramount role in consistent shipments. The iPhone 16 range is expected to launch later this year, but the generative AI suite wrapped under the Apple Intelligence umbrella is not expected to arrive before iOS 18.1 rolls out, and that might have a deleterious result on sales. In any case, we will continue monitoring the upcoming quarters for any changes and will report back any variations in the third and fourth quarters, so stay tuned.
