After months of speculations and reports, Apple has officially unveiled its latest iPadOS 26 update with a major redesign and productivity boost for the iPad lineup. Much like iOS 26, the update adopts the new Liquid Glass design language inspired by visionOS, featuring translucent layers, floating toolbars, and a cleaner, more modern interface across the system.
iPadOS 26 brings Liquid Glass design, windowing system, menu bar, Preview app, and Live Activities
The highlight of the update is the new multitasking experience, the new always-on-screen menu bar, and a brand-new Preview app, which will bridge the gap between the iPad and the Mac. Before we dive down into the features and multitasking interface, we have to take note that iPadOS 26 also revolves around the new Liquid Glass design language. The interface is more fluid and gives users more screen real estate as the tabs menu has been transitioned into a transparent bubble situated at the bottom of the screen.
Moving on, iPadOS 26 brings an all-new windowing system, a powerful new feature that allows users to work, control, organize, and switch between app windows. The feature basically pushes the iPad closer to the Mac in terms of productivity, as users have demanded a more profound multitasking experience for a while.

iPadOS 26 also brings the Mac's Menu Bar to the iPad for the first time. We are familiar with the productivity that is derived from the menu bar on the Mac, and the newly added addition will definitely be a game-changer for iPad users. The iPad also gets a brand-new Preview app, which carries a handful of tools to save your time. There is also a dedicated Games app that acts as a hub for all your Game Center leaderboards and much more. You also get a dedicated storefront that is customized to you and based on your preferences.

The update also brings Live Activities to the iPad, a feature that was previously limited to the iPhone. It allows you to keep track of anything, including flights, order deliveries, and much more. The Files app gets an updated List View, and the folders from the Files app can now be added to the dock. The iPad also gets the iPhone's Journal app, allowing you to explore and brainstorm ideas on the go. The app should have been released for the iPad alongside the iPhone version, but we are glad that it is here.
iPadOS 26 has been released to developers, and the public version will be released later this year, potentially in mid-September. We will be covering the updates extensively, so do stick around for more.
