Apple is expected to announce iOS 18 in a few months at its developer's conference in June, alongside a handful of other updates for its entire product line. As we come closer to the unveiling of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, we are hearing details on which iPhone or iPad devices will feature support for the updates, as the company is known to drop compatibility for some older devices. According to the latest rumor, all iPhone models that support iOS 17 will also get iOS 18, but iPadOS 18 will not be compatible with some older iPads.

Check out the list of iPhone and iPad models which will get support for iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 later this year

We have previously shared an unofficial list of iPhone and iPad devices that will feature support for iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, but it appears that the latest rumor is somewhat credible. According to 9to5mac, an account with a solid track record shared details on which iPhone and iPad models will be compatible with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. For your ease, we have compiled a list of iPhone models that will feature support for iOS 18 later this year.

As you can see, iOS 18 will be compatible with all the iPhone models that support the company's current iOS 17 version. Apple has been very generous with iOS updates as the company supports an iPhone model almost five years after its launch, and while the competition is following the same route, it is struggling to keep older versions of Android alive on old hardware. However, the same can not be said for iPadOS 18, as the company is planning to drop compatibility for some iPads in the coming months. Check out the list below on which iPads will drop support for iPadOS 18.

Apple will drop support for these iPad models:

  • 6th Generation iPad
  • 2nd Generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro
  • 10.5-inch iPad Pro

These iPad models will be compatible with iPadOS 18:

  • 2019 iPad and newer models
  • 2019 iPad mini and newer models
  • 2019 iPad Air and newer models
  • 2018 iPad Pro and newer models

However, it is a bit peculiar to see that the 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models will drop support for iPadOS 18 despite being powered by the company's A10X Fusion chip. In comparison, the 7th generation iPad is powered by the A10 Fusion chip and is still compatible with iPadOS 18. Note that the list is mere speculation of devices at this stage, as the company will officially announce the compatibility of its upcoming software updates at its WWDC 2024 event, which is scheduled to begin on June 10.
