iOS 18 will bring a slew of new AI features for the iPhone later this year. While some features will be available on older iPhone models, Apple will potentially launch the iPhone 16 lineup with some exclusive additions thanks to the A18 chip with an upgraded Neural Engine. iOS 18 could transform the entire iPhone user experience as it will bring a handful of new features and changes. According to a new report, the forthcoming AI features in iOS 18 will have an impact on iPhone sales in China.
iOS 18's AI features could play a pivotal role in reviving iPhone sales in China amid immense competition from flagship brands
It was previously reported that iPhone sales in China have taken a hit due to excessive competition from Huawei and other flagship brands. The device continues to go downward in China in terms of sales, but it could change this year with the release of iOS 18 and the launch of the iPhone 16 models. DigiTimes claims in a paywalled report that Apple has been struggling in the Chinese market since the start of this year due to a lack of innovation in terms of design and the absence of AI features.
The iPhone maker has intense competition in the region from Huawei as well as foldable smartphones from various brands like Oppo and Samsung. The company reported a 13 percent decline in sales in China in December last year. We have previously covered that the company has seen up to 40 percent of sales slumps in the past few weeks. While there might be several reasons for the declining sales trajectory, the absence of AI features in contrast to the competition must have played an important role.
Users in China do not see Apple as a leading brand due to its decision to hold off on AI features for this year while almost all other companies are running past it. While the company has been lacking in the field, it is making major strides in the right direction. We have previously covered that Apple has developed AI tools that can edit and animate still images. Additionally, the company is training Siri and Spotlight using large language models to compete against the likes of Google and Amazon Alexa.
However, the addition of new AI features in iOS 18 will not be the only reason for the iPhone's success in China. We have recently covered that the company is also working to redesign some elements of the operating system. All of these features combined could transform how users use the iPhone, which would ultimately have an impact on the device's sales in China.
