Intel's next-gen Granite Rapids-SP Xeon CPUs have also been pictured and will be compatible with the LGA 4710 socket.

Next-Gen Intel Granite Rapids-SP CPUs Pictured: Xeon Chips Designed For LGA 4710 Socket

In pictures tweeted by Momomo_US, we see two distinct Intel CPUs with an IHS design that hasn't been seen before. These chips are secured within their carrier frame which reads "LGA 4710-2" so this is a new socket that also hasn't been released. The CPU IHS on the left looks kind of similar to existing Sapphire Rapids-SP chips but it's the one on the right that looks very different than what we have seen yet.

Replying to the tweet, YuuKi_AnS revealed that the chips are actually Intel's Granite Rapids-SP parts which are designed around the new LGA 4710-2 socket. These chips should not be compared with the Granite Rapids-AP Xeon CPUs that leaked a few days ago too. Those are designed around the LGA 7529 socket and are much bigger in terms of size and also carry support for the Sierra Forest CPUs.

One of the platforms to take advantage of the new CPUs is the Beechnut City MVV (Main Validation Vehicle) which is a dual-socket (2S) motherboard designed around the Birch Stream platform & has support for two LGA 4710-2 sockets. This motherboard can support up to two Intel Granite Rapids-SP Xeon CPUs with up to 350W TDP and 8-channel DDR5 memory support scattered across a total of 32 DIMM slots (DDR5-6400 1DPC / DDR5-5200 2DPC). The platform will also offer up to 88 PCIe Gen 5.0 lanes.

This is one of the many platforms since Birch Stream will scale across 1S and up to 8S configs. Intel Granite Rapids-SP Xeon CPUs are also expected to feature anywhere between 80 to 86 cores which will be up to 43% more cores than the Sapphire Rapids-SP (60 Cores).

The Intel 6th Gen Granite Rapids-SP/AP CPUs CPUs will utilize different chip designs. The Granite Rapids-SP/AP chips will be based on the "Intel 3" process node and take advantage of the brand-new Redwood Cove cores which are expected to deliver a major performance uplift over existing Golden Cove and Raptor Cove P-Cores. The CPU lineup is expected to launch in 2H 2024 after the arrival of Sierra Forest chips and will be competing against AMD's Zen 5 offerings such as the EPYC Turin family.
