Apple has today released a pre-release version of OS X Yosemite to people who had signed up for the public beta program. Using the beta program promo codes, you can now download Yosemite from the Mac App Store for free. While the OS X Yosemite public beta lacks the much-awaited continuity features allowing integration of OS X with iOS 8 powered devices, however, OS X Yosemite public beta sports some notable new features. Improvements is Safari, Messaging and Notifications are reported so far in the early testings of the OS X Yosemite public beta.

Install OS X Yosemite public beta on your Mac:
After grabbing the OS X Yosemite public beta from either the Dev Center or using your own invite from Apple, you have to follow these steps to ensure safe installation. Or, you can also download OS X Yosemite from here.
- Create space on your Mac as you will need some 20GB free space before starting partitioning.
- To ensure safe installation and testing of OS X Yosemite without affecting your current OS X, create a separate partition following these steps:
- Open Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
- Select your Mac's main drive and click the Partition tab
- Click + under the Layout section
- Name your new partition and set the amount of disk space you want to allocate
- Click Apply!
- After creating a new partition, load up your new OS X Yosemite 10.10 and it will ask you on which disk to install it on. Select the freshly created partition and follow steps.
Once you are done testing the OS X Yosemite public beta and want to switch back to Mavericks, here is how to:
- Open System Preferences > Startup Disk.
- From here, select your original OS X partition and click Restart.
- Ta da!
