Apple is expected to unveil its biggest foldable device in the coming years, and so far, there are mixed reports on whether it will be an iPad, a Mac, or a hybrid of both. Needless to say, it will feature a gigantic 18.8-inch foldable display for the maximum viewing experience that you have on a portable device. If you are still unsure of what the device will look like, Huawei has just given us an early look at its MateBook Fold, which resembles the dimensions of Apple's forthcoming foldable.
Huawei’s MateBook Fold teases what Apple’s rumored 18.8-inch foldable iPad-Mac hybrid could look like
We are expecting Apple to launch its first-ever foldable next year, which means that the larger 18.8-inch device will be unveiled at a later date. Huawei's latest MateBook Fold is a perfect rendition of a product that could let users know what it will look like and how it will behave. While it can be opened up as an 18-inch tablet, it can also be used as a laptop when partially folded.
The Huawei MateBook is barely under 15mm thick when folded and 7.3mm when unfolded, giving it a slimmer-than-expected overall profile. It is a wee bit thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro, which allows the device to be thinner than the industry standard but thicker to keep it from snapping in half. The dimensions also contribute to the durability of the device, as it is thick enough to endure pressure.
Due to the diverse range of folding mechanisms, the Huawei MateBook Fold offers a range of different modes for a single device. It can be used as a flat device, as a single large tablet, flat, and paired with an external keyboard as a PC, a laptop-like angle where users can use the on-screen keyboard, or another laptop-like angle with two virtual screens. In laptop mode, the display is equal to a 13-inch screen, similar to most laptops on the market.

While it is a great product with numerous software-based features that take advantage of the foldable technology and bigger display, users will have to shed enormous money to get it. If you are not familiar, the Huawei MateBook Fold is priced at a whopping $3,300 or 23,999 yuan for the base model with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage capacity. The 2TB model will take you all the way up to $3,750 or 26,999 yuan.
It remains to be seen how Apple will price its first foldable iPhone and the foldable tablet, but from what we can assess, it will not be cheap at all. Considering the newness of the technology, the prices are bound to be higher than expected, but the company could lower them with time as technology gets cheaper. Do you think a foldable tablet of this size is more productive than the standard iPad Pro?
