Microsoft released Windows 10 cumulative update 10586.122 (support number KB3140743) last week, on the Patch Tuesday. Since then a number of users have reported issues ranging from installation problems to the operating system getting stuck after a successful installation. As a week has passed since the release, the update is still available and causing problems for non-Insider users, with no word from Microsoft on how to avoid or fix the problems.

Fix Windows 10 10586.122 installation troubles:
Several users have reported that they were unable to install the update, with the OS stuck in the reboot loop. Those who managed to install the update successfully had to experience problems afterwards. Even after a week since its release, Microsoft is yet to pull the update or provide any workaround to the installation issues. With no help from Redmond, users are left with nothing but to avoid the update altogether.
When installing KB3140743 (Cumulative update for Windows10 version 1511 for X64-based systems) seemed to be finished, my PC displayed "Working on updates 100% complete Don't turn off your computer" for hours. I only managed to restart it by booting from a USB Windows10 install stick, choosing "repair", and restoring to a previous restore point. Gerard
To fix the Windows 10 KB3140743 issues, a Reddit user JJisTheDarkOne has shared a workaround of hiding the update.
- Boot into Safe Mode.
- Go to Control Panel > Programs > View installed updates.
- Once here, look for the update label KB3140743.
- Right-click it, uninstall.
Once you are done with this, your computer should boot up without any issues. However, to ensure that your Windows 10 machine doesn't automatically install this update again, you will need to follow some more steps.
- Download Windows 10 Updates Troubleshooter (wushowhide.diagcab).
- Open Command Prompt with admin privileges.
- Run the following commands (the downloaded tool is in Downloads folder - else, change the directory)
- c:
- cd \
- cd users
- cd name
- cd downloads
- wushowhide.diagcab
- When the application launches, click on the Advanced option and select Auto fix.
- Select Hide updates and choose KB3140743.
- Once done, reboot your computer.
Since there is no other workaround available right now to fix Windows 10 KB3140743 installation and post-installation issues with the latest update that was released to Windows 10, you will have to hide it completely to avoid any bugs.
