Crate Entertainment has announced that it will release a huge free update for Grim Dawn this Thursday. Version 1.2 will be the largest update ever for the hack-and-slash action RPG, adding new features and lots of balance changes.

First and foremost, the whole game can now be played up to the level cap (100) on any difficulty, thanks to new level scaling functionality. Loot tables have been reduced by 30-60%; however, loot quality and iron bits (the game's version of currency) drops have been significantly increased to compensate.

A new Evade skill has been added to Grim Dawn, allowing players to interrupt any action and dash in the desired direction, granting a brief window of vulnerability. By default, it will be bound to the space bar. Health and energy potion items have been removed from the game, but they are now a baseline skill and, therefore, won't burden the player's inventory.

There are also several accessibility additions, as detailed below:

  • New Accessibility Feature: Disable Day-Night Cycle. By enabling this, the game will be perpetually set to noon.
  • New Accessibility Feature: Disable Fog. If you do not wish to see the ambient fog, you can disable it in the video options.
  • New Accessibility Feature: Cooldown Counters. Enable this to see a numeric countdown on your skills on the quickbar.
  • New Accessibility Feature: Auto-Pick Up Radius can now be increased or reduced from its default setting.

Grim Dawn modders should be happy to learn that the size limit of the world map has doubled from 2GB to 4GB. According to Crate Entertainment, this should allow for much bigger mod maps.

The 1.2 update is the stepstone toward the next expansion, Fangs of Asterkarn, due to launch at some point next year. The upcoming DLC will add a new region, a new game mode, a new 10th mastery (the Berserker), two new roguelike dungeons, new super bosses, and hundreds of new items to Grim Dawn.
