GPD Introduces GPD BOX Mini PC, Featuring Either Intel Core Ultra X7 356H or Ultra X7 358H, Paired With 32 GB + 1 TB Memory and Storage
Up until now, GPD has been known for its gaming handhelds, including its latest Strix Halo-based WIN 5 that rocks the Ryzen AI Max+ 395. The company is now entering the mini PC market by introducing its first-ever mini PC called "GPD Box". The GPD Box is launched on Indiegogo and is collecting its backers through crowdfunding. This isn't the first time we have heard about the GPD BOX, and if you can remember, we posted about its introduction nearly two months ago.
The GPD BOX boasts the Panther Lake series chips, including the Core Ultra X7 356H and the Core Ultra X7 358H. Both are excellent 16-core/16-thread chips, featuring the latest Xe3-based integrated graphics. However, the Ultra X7 358H-based machine will be able to enjoy the much more powerful Arc B390 GPU, which is capable of playing modern games without a discrete GPU. Apart from powerful iGPU, the processor delivers up to 180 TOPS of AI power for local AI workloads, making it ideal for professionals.
GPD claims that the GPD BOX is the "world's first" mini PC to feature the MCIO 8i interface and Dual USB4 v2.0 connectivity. MCIO 8i runs at PCIe 5.0 x8 interface, which is sufficient to handle modern GPUs, and if you remember, another manufacturer, TOPC, also launched its mini PC called TA255 with MCIO 8i, but it was capped at PCIe 4.0 x8. So, essentially, the GPD BOX is the only device with a fully unlocked MCIO 8i connection for external GPUs.
As far as specifications are concerned, the GPD BOX will be available with either Core Ultra X7 356H, paired with 32 GB RAM and 1 TB storage. The second configuration is with the Core Ultra X7 358H coupled with 32 GB RAM and 1 TB storage. Both are available on Indiegogo at $1,491 and $1,575, respectively.
Moreover, these mini PCs have silently debuted on Amazon Japan. However, they aren't available for purchase yet, as GPD will lift the embargo next month. PC Watch says that the GPD BOX with 356H is launched in Japan at 293,000 Yen or US$1802, while the 358H version will hit the shelves at 308,000 Yen or US$1894.
