Galaxy S26 Ultra Teardown Gives Us A Closer Look At Samsung’s Efforts To Make Battery Replacements A Breeze, And To Cool Relevant Components Effectively

Samsung has not just made the Galaxy S26 Ultra a flagship that checks all the boxes of a premium smartphone without going overboard like its rivals, but it has also turned its focus on two areas that properly tackle user complaints; battery replacements and thermals. In the latest teardown, we take a look at how the Korean giant has implemented these changes, and how some competitors should take down valuable notes.

Extensive use of graphite films and thermal paste on the chipset, storage, and DRAM allows for effective heat dissipation on the Galaxy S26 Ultra

It was fairly easy to get into the Galaxy S26 Ultra using pry tools, with the first introduction of Samsung aiming to lower temperatures on its flagships as much as possible, coming in the form of a graphite film that’s applied to the wireless charging coil. Next, the YouTube channel PBKreviews mentions that on previous-generation Galaxy S Ultra flagships, Samsung didn’t use any thermal paste between the motherboard’s back and the smartphone’s frame, but it has made this implementation on the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

There’s additional graphite film on the logic board, but here’s the surprising bit. Samsung has added thermal paste to both the storage and DRAM, with the memory chip present on top of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. It is clear that this version of the Galaxy S26 Ultra isn’t the Exynos 2600 variant since the latter would be cooled by a Heat Pass Block (HPB), which is a copper heatsink that’s placed on top of the chipset and seated next to the DRAM.

Coming to the battery, Samsung has added an ‘easy to remove’ pull pouch, with all four sides clearly labeled. It is remarkable how easily this part can be separated, meaning that those pull tabs should be quickly be replaced by this method and become the new standard. We also get our first look at the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s vapor chamber, and Samsung may have marketed this piece as the largest one used on its flagship smartphones, but its size remains unchanged from the one used on the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

With such a pleasant experience tearing down the Galaxy S26 Ultra, the YouTuber gives a 9 out of 10 rating, with half a point deducted for the length of repairs and another half a point removed when replacing the display.
