Samsung made incredible strides with the Galaxy S23 Ultra by addressing the problems present in the Galaxy S22 Ultra. It might sport the same design as its predecessor, and its camera hardware might not be the most impressive when you have players like the Xiaomi 13 Ultra and OPPO Find X6 Pro, but Samsung figured out that it is not the specifications on paper that matter, but the overall experience, particularly in image stabilization. A comparison shows that the Korean giant’s flagship absolutely nails the video recording aspect.

In video stabilization, the OPPO Find X6 Pro and Xiaomi 13 Ultra are a ‘shaky’ mess compared to the Galaxy S23 Ultra

Both OPPO’s and Xiaomi’s flagships have camera specifications that would certainly intimidate the competition, but in real-world performance, it is the Galaxy S23 Ultra that comes out on top. Earlier reviews have praised Samsung’s premium offering for not only demonstrating impressive image prowess but also possessing a strong video stabilization game, an area where the Find X6 Pro and 13 Ultra struggle immensely.

A comparison GIF uploaded by Revegnus on Twitter shows that the Find X6 Pro and 13 Ultra have uncontrollable camera shake when recording video from their primary sensors, indicating that users must purchase a gimbal to see improvements. Naturally, when you have such capable optics, purchasing a gimbal appears like a waste of money and unnecessary, but looking at the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s competitors, it looks like Chinese manufacturers are still behind.

It is likely that improved video stabilization was one of the reasons why the Galaxy S23 Ultra was praised by legendary British film director Sir Ridley Scott when he and his crew used the handset to shoot a small film. In any case, the massive rear camera housings of the OPPO Find X6 Pro and Xiaomi 13 Ultra, along with the Hasselblad and Leica branding at the back, would entice customers into picking any one of these up, only to be left disappointed in seeing that the Galaxy S23 Ultra outperforms both in this particular test.

Hopefully, we will have something more pleasant to look forward to when their successors arrive next year. However, Samsung will not be sitting around idle, and will offer the Galaxy S24 Ultra in early 2024, so we will see how it stacks up.
