Samsung is maintaining the same level of zoom for the Galaxy S24 Ultra for one camera, which might give the impression that the company is not focused on upgrading the hardware in this aspect. However, one tipster states that the 3x optical zoom will feature a massive change from the 10MP one present on the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Galaxy S24 Ultra to offer a 50MP 3x optical zoom camera, a near 5x increase in image resolution compared to the Galaxy S23 Ultra

Despite missing out on a 5x optical zoom upgrade, Ice Universe has an update that should put a smile on his face and people who are reading his post. The tipster has been extremely vocal on the micro-blogging platform on Samsung’s lack of efforts in making the Galaxy lineup extra competitive, but with a 50MP camera arriving to the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s 3x optical zoom, he might be able to take back his words somewhat.

The exact sensor details were not shared, but a jump from 10MP to 50MP represents nearly five times an improvement in image resolution, so whatever picture is taken from the Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to look immaculate. Moreover, when the 3x optical zoom is used, the increased image resolution should mitigate a loss in quality. Looking at this upgrade, it was entirely possible for Samsung to use a 5x zoom lens, but an intricate process like this would have incurred a massive bill for the company.

Luckily, a second 10x optical zoom camera is said to complement the 3x one, but Ice Universe has not mentioned the exact sensor size or the maximum supported resolution. In a previous rumor, however, he does state that quality improvements will be seen from both Galaxy S24 Ultra cameras. On paper, it might seem that Samsung is uninterested in incorporating any notable changes, but the entire story looks significantly different as we go in-depth. As always, we will share more information on his findings in the future.
