After French publisher Nacon filed for insolvency last month, and after reports of its Cyanide, Spiders, and Kylotonn studios being placed under receivership just yesterday, we've now learned that those same three studios, and Nacon Tech, a motion capture company within Nacon, have also filed for insolvency.

The news comes from Game Developer, as the four aforementioned studios filed for insolvency with the Lille Métropole Commercial Court and have requested judicial reorganization proceedings to commence. So far, the publisher's only comment on the matter has been through an official press release, which simply confirms the filing for the four studios.

There's been no additional word on the future of these studios or their projects from Nacon, one of which is due to arrive next month, with Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss. None of the studios filing are directly working on the upcoming Lovecraftian horror title, but its developer, Big Bad Wolf, is a subsidiary of Cyanide Studios.

Of course, with Nacon itself having filed for insolvency last month, Big Bad Wolf's project isn't the only one at risk. It's possible that because we're already so close to the release of The Cosmic Abyss that it still makes it out the door while these proceedings continue, but as for the rest of the games in Nacon's portfolio, those are a bigger question.

The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is one project that may be able to make its launch, because its developer, ACE Team, is an independent studio and not another Nacon subsidiary. Theoretically, the studio would just need to find another publisher, if Nacon can no longer support it and if it cannot publish the game by itself.

But there's no guarantee either of those will be options, particularly because even if Nacon releases ACE Team from their agreement to find a new publisher, it may not be able to do so on such short notice, since The Mound is set to arrive on July 15, 2026.

As a reminder, here's a list of Nacon's core development subsidiaries:

  • Nacon Studio Milan
  • Big Ant Studios
  • Daedalic Entertainment
  • Cyanide - filed for insolvency
  • Midgar Studio
  • RaceWard Studio
  • Neopica
  • Ishtar Games
  • Crea-ture Studios
  • Eko Software
  • Kylotonn - filed for insolvency
  • Spiders - filed for insolvency
