Forza Motorsport, the next entry in the racing game series by Turn10 launching later this year, will support ray-traced global illumination on PC, the developer confirmed.

In a new update shared on the series' official website, the developer confirmed that the game will support ray tracing both on PC and Xbox Series X|S, providing a quick overview of how ray tracing works. The thousands of real-time calculations required to bounce rays into a scene weren't obviusly possible on previous console generations, so this is why Forza Motorsport is the first entry in the series to support ray tracing.

On PC, the game will support ray traced global illumination, which simulates how light accumulates color as it bounces between surfaces, influencing how certain elements appear in relation to those nearby, connecting all pieces in a scene.

The new Forza Motorsport June 2023 update also provides additional information on the console performance, which will target 4K resolution, 60 frames per second on Xbox Series X and 1080p resolution, 60 frames per second on Xbox Series S. The console version of the game will also support Convolution Reverb, a hardware-accelerated technique which reproduces how sounds interact with the environment accurately to create a realistic soundscape. Additional detail on how the PC version of the game will perform and which wheels will be supported will be shared at a later time. Sadly, it seems like the game will not support VR, as the developer has nothing to share on the matter at this time.

Forza Motorsport will release on PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S on October 10th worldwide. You can check out the latest trailer shared during the Xbox Showcase yesterday by going here.
