Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 Stayed Hidden at State of Play, but Director’s Comments Quietly Gave the Game Away

Although more information on Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is supposedly coming soon, the game is still nowhere to be seen. The third and final entry in the Remake trilogy was a no-show during yesterday's PlayStation State of Play, but judging from some recent statements from director Naoki Hamaguchi, this absence is most likely related to a very probable simultaneous multiplatform release.

“We cannot yet provide specific details regarding the release timing,” said Hamaguchi-san in a new interview with Famitsu. “However, what we have strongly felt while developing this multi-platform title is that ‘users want to experience the excitement at the same time.’ We are seriously considering how to best develop the third title on multiple platforms, both for the fans and from a business perspective.”

The Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 director is well aware of how gamers nowadays are interested in having the same experience at the same time, and the development is strongly keeping this in consideration, and will present their final answer regarding the simultaneous multiplatform release in a way that meets fans' expectations.

While Hamaguchi-san did not provide a direct answer to the possibility of a simultaneous multiplatform release of Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3, other tidbits in the interview suggest this is indeed happening, as the development team has embraced the multiplatform development process.

“To be honest, the development flow itself has changed considerably. Previously, the general approach was to ‘complete the game on one platform first, and then consider porting it later.’ Square Enix also largely followed this approach,” Hamaguchi-san said. “However, what I strongly felt through FFVII Remake and FFVII Rebirth is that in this day and age, that way of thinking is no longer viable. Including rendering, streaming, memory design, and asset configuration, it is necessary to ‘design with multiple environments in mind from the beginning.’ In other words, the era of ‘the porting team working hard later’ is over.”

This approach has been incorporated from the very beginning of Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 development, Hamaguchi-san added, further suggesting a simultaneous multiplatform launch is definitely in the cards.

Lastly, the Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 director also provided a message to all those eagerly anticipating the game. “These days, the question of ‘which platform it's released on’ is far less important than ‘how much enthusiasm you can put into playing it.’ We're prioritizing that aspect with our trilogy as well. The era where ‘AAA games are only for a select few environments’ is rapidly changing,” Hamaguchi-san said. “That's why we absolutely won't leave the third installment in an incomplete state. I want to bring it to a point where I can proudly say, ‘I have completed the FFVII Remake series to the very end.’ That is the determination with which we are developing it now. Please look forward to it!”

If Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 will indeed go multiplatform at launch, this Friday's Summer Game Fest showcase will be the perfect opportunity to finally reveal the game. Hopefully, we will finally get the first glimpse of the Highwind gameplay set to redefine the series' scale, Cid and Vincent in combat, the return of Chadley in a major role, and the epic conclusion of one of the most ambitious remake projects to date.
