A comprehensive and robustly integrated supply chain should enable Apple to continue shipping its hardware at a lower price, outdoing the competition. The company’s low-cost MacBook is right around the corner, with one of its major selling points being significantly more affordable compared to what rivals are churning out. It has been reported that this portable Mac will contribute to Apple’s growth in 2026, with a new report stating that this version alone will account for 25 percent of all Mac sales recorded for last year.
The upcoming portable Mac is estimated to record shipments between 5.5 million and 7.9 million units, with an affordable price and decent hardware being the primary reasons for upgrading
One of the reasons why Apple is expected to enjoy a ton of success with its affordable MacBook is its price, with an earlier estimation predicting a price of between $699 and $799. According to yeux1122’s blog, with the information repeated on multiple occasions, the machine will also sport 8GB RAM. From the looks of it, the ongoing RAM crisis could potentially mean that Apple will only launch the low-cost MacBook with a single memory configuration, saving on component costs in other areas, such as utilizing the A18 Pro, and sticking with a smaller display.
One of the more interesting statistics in the report mentions shipments of between 5.5 million and 7.9 million units. Apple shipped between 24.8 million and 25.6 million Macs in 2025, and even though its base MacBook Air sports an attractive ‘price to performance’ ratio, the company didn’t have any product occupying the lower tier, which made Apple miss out on a massive market. With the low-cost MacBook arriving in the coming weeks, competitors will face a ton of pressure as some manufacturers are forced to introduce 8GB RAM as standard.
The advantage of the MacBook with the same amount of onboard DRAM is the seamless hardware and software integration, though there will be occasions where 8GB of memory will become a limiting factor. This means the machine will primarily be targeted at schools, where Chromebooks have typically dominated.
