Earlier this year, French publisher Nacon filed for insolvency, which caused the same for some of its studios, including Cyanide, developers of the Styx series, Spiders and a few others. Edge of Eternity and Edge of Memories developer Midgar Studio was also among the studios impacted by Nacon's fall, but there was still a sliver of hope for the French development studio, as it was actively seeking an acquirer. Unfortunately, no one bought the studio in the required timeframe, as founder Jérémy Zeler-Maury confirmed that Midgar Studio has come to an end.

"Today, Midgar Studio comes to an end. This is not the message I had hoped to write. I had hoped to come back here and announce that we had found an acquirer. Unfortunately, the court has now ordered the liquidation of Midgar Studio," the studio founder said in a heartfelt post on LinkedIn. "Over the past few weeks, we worked until the very end to find a solution that could preserve both the company and the team. Despite every avenue explored and everyone who tried to help us, no solution could be completed within the timeframe of the process."

Having had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Jérémy Zeler-Maury as well as with Midgar Studio's composer Cédric Menendez over the years, the last time only last year during Gamescom for an Edge of Memories hands-on, I can only be disappointed by the studio's closure. Jérémy always struck me as a knowledgeable and passionate developer, and I was really looking forward to their action RPG, which seemed as much a part of Square Enix's Mana series as the latest official entry.

As such, like everyone who had the chance to try out any of the games developed by Midgar Studio, I wish Jérémy Zeler-Maury and the rest of the team all the best for their future endeavors. Hopefully, this won't be the last we will hear of them.
