More optimized DDR5 memory are being pushed beyond 8000 MT/s on mainstream Intel and AMD platforms.
Asgard 48 GB DDR5 RAM Kit Pushed to 8800 MT/s on ASUS Z890 AYW Gaming WiFi W Motherboard
CXMT appears to be in a very strong position after vendors rushed to secure DDR5 inventories. CXMT (ChangXin Memory Technology) is China's memory producer, which has been giving competition to giant memory makers like Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix. We have seen recently how CXMT DDR5-based memory modules are now reaching high transfer rates, and they are now becoming better on the mainstream platform.
Previously, the CXMT DDR5-based modules could hardly reach 7000 MT/s, but they are now hitting over 8000 MT/s on AMD platforms. Motherboard vendors have now started releasing BIOS updates supporting CXMT memory, including ASUS, but more importantly, memory makers have started adopting CXMT DDR5 chips for their new DDR5 module lineups.
The highest DDR5 speeds we achieved on an AMD platform were 8600 MT/s on a Colorful motherboard, and now we are hearing another record. This time, it's on an Intel platform, particularly on an ASUS Z890 motherboard, where a DDR5 RAM kit was able to push to a good 8800 MT/s. The manufacturer is Asgard, which is a Chinese memory maker that pushed its Valkyrie II RGB Special Edition DDR5-6000 RAM kit to 8800 MT/s.
The kit comprises two sticks of 24 GB, featuring 24 Gb memory chips by CXMT, and the motherboard used was an ASUS Z890 AYW Gaming WiFi W, which isn't an enthusiast-grade motherboard by any means. It boasts 4 DIMMs with a 2DPC configuration, which isn't as efficient as a 1DPC configuration, but it was still able to push the 48 GB kit to a good 8800 MT/s at CL46-56-56-132.
This development comes right after MSI pushed CXMT-based DDR5 memory to 8200 MT/s on one of its Z890 motherboard. It appears that there is more room for optimizations, and CXMT memory can easily go past 9000 MT/s with proper tweaks on both AMD and Intel platforms.
