Today, Pearl Abyss has reported a transformative quarter, with the launch of its long-awaited open world action RPG Crimson Desert turning in excellent sales numbers and setting the Korean developer on course for what could be its most profitable year on record.

Crimson Desert launched on March 19, 2026 and immediately made a statement by topping Steam's Top Sellers chart across major markets despite being an entirely new IP. Despite the lack of overwhelmingly positive critical reviews, its sales trajectory was relentless:

Pearl Abyss reports that the split between PC and console was nearly even at 50:50, which is notable for a Korean-developed title historically more associated with PC (Black Desert, the studio's debut game, was only available on PC for the first few years). Western markets dominated geographically, with NA/EU accounting for over 80% of sales, a 25 percentage point jump from the previous quarter and a clear sign that Pearl Abyss has successfully broken through to a global AAA audience.

The financial impact was sizable across every metric:

Pearl Abyss FinancialsQ1 2026YoY Change
Operating RevenueKRW 328.5B+419.8%
Operating ProfitKRW 212.1B+2,584.8%
Net ProfitKRW 170.0B+2,107.8%

Crimson Desert alone generated KRW 266.5 billion (around $178.8 million) in its first two weeks of availability, and that figure only captures sales through the end of March. Black Desert continued its dependable live service performance at KRW 61.6 billion ($41.3M), essentially flat quarter-on-quarter.

Pearl Abyss has also issued a full-year guidance for 2026, projecting operating revenue between KRW 879–975 billion ($590–654M), of which Crimson Desert is expected to contribute KRW 644–734 billion ($432–492M). That means if Crimson Desert performs at the top end of guidance, it will end 2026 having generated over half a billion dollars in revenue, which would definitely be an amazing feat for a brand new intellectual property.

The developer also reiterated that it is exploring DLC for Crimson Desert, but there are no concrete plans yet. DokeV, the colorful creature-collecting action game first revealed several years ago, is now in pre-production and has been designated as the studio's top priority, with Pearl Abyss targeting a new title release cadence of every 2–3 years. Meanwhile, Plan 8 remains in the conceptualization stage, nearly seven years after its original announcement.

Of course, the report also confirms the sale of CCP Games, now independent once again and rebranded as Fenris Creations.
