How to Remap Galaxy S8’s Bixby Button to Access Google Assistant
Samsung’s Bixby assistant on its latest Galaxy S8 flagship has been creating a lot of buzz lately. Especially with Samsung flaunting the dedicated button integrated for Bixby on the side of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. It’s been just a week since Samsung has been basking in the glory of AI assistant, but all the pride could be short lived, thanks to an app.
Galaxy S8 is an Android device at heart; and it is now presented with a thrid-party option that allows users to choose between Bixby and Google Assistant. Such users can easily opt for Google Assistant on their device, and the dedicated button for Bixby would work for waking up Google Assistant.
All this is possible due to a smart developer and his “All In one Gestures” app. We knew that Google Assistant would work on the Galaxy S8 by long-pressing the home button, but one app has changed it all and created choice for the users. They can actually choose to use the ‘Bixby button’ for Google Assistant.
The “All In one Gestures” app allows users to remap the Bixby button to any other app, which also includes Google Assistant. This new information has been leaked via XDA Developers. The process to remap Bixby button to Google Assistant is pretty simple. The Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ users would first need to install the “All In one Gestures” app and then they will be asked to allow certain permissions to the app and it will then let them remap buttons on the device.
To remap the Bixby button, the user will require to tap on the “options” menu in the app and then “custom keys” after that they will have to enter the code – 1082, which is the button code for Bixby button. After entering the code, the app will allow the user to remap it to Google Assistant by going to “search” and then “voice search”.
It is tough to say whether Samsung will do something about it or let it remain this way. It would be interesting to see if the company ends up disabling the loophole in the button.
