Mark Gurman reports that sleep apnea detection is coming to the Apple Watch Series 10, but it will not be available at launch, which means that the company will offer the feature with a software upgrade either later this year or the next. The feature will be built on the wearable's existing sleep tracking, which will determine if the wearer has sleep apnea, taking into account various factors and health metrics. The feature will then notify the user if he or she should get further help from medical professionals.
Gurman expressed his concern regarding the inclusion of the feature in this year's Apple Watch Series 10 due to its reliance on blood oxygen saturation. The latter has been in an ongoing dispute with Masimo in the United States, and Apple has removed the feature from the wearable until it gets resolved. Due to the exclusion of the blood oxygen saturation monitor, it remains to be seen how the company will detect sleep apnea in the Apple Watch Series 10.
Eventually, the Apple Watch Series 10 will get the feature, which largely depends on the dispute the company is going through at this stage. The company has also been working on its hypertension detection or high blood pressure monitor, but during the testing, it has shown insufficient results. Until the feature is perfect, the company will see fit to keep it for the future. Gurman says the feature is not on the company's cards for an immediate release.
Besides the health-centric features, the Apple Watch Series 10 will feature a thinner profile than the current models with a larger display. It was reported earlier that the company would see fit to ditch the 41mm in favor of increasing the size to 45mm and 49mm, similar to the Apple Watch Ultra.
