The first Apple Vision Pro teardown

To call the Apple Vision Pro an overengineered headset would be a gross understatement, and in addition to the biggest Lighting port hiding in its innards, there are a ton of surprises for anyone curious enough to see what is lurking inside the $3,499 head-mounted wearable. Fortunately, you do not have to experience this ordeal because the first teardown video has been posted online, showing that in true Apple fashion, the Vision Pro is an absolute nightmare to take apart.

Endless tapes, screws, brackets, and tiny connectors describe the whole Apple Vision Pro teardown story

Disconnecting the power cord, the battery puck, and the Solo Knit Band is about the only easy thing about the Apple Vision Pro, as iFixit reveals that it has to post another video just to complete the entire process. Getting to the display requires the removal of specifically customized cushions, light seals, and given that there are no entry points for opening the Apple Vision Pro plastic film, display, and glass assembly, iFixit relied on its heatgun and a set of pry tools to finish the job.

Despite removing the outer display layers, the headset works perfectly fine, though looking at the person wearing the Apple Vision Pro will be an unsightly experience. A Lenticular display is also present in the headset, and iFixit’s video host explains what and why it is used in such a product. Moving on, the lens assembly removal is not difficult, and when it is separated from the headset, we can see the dual-fan cooling solution. If you thought that things could not get any more difficult from hereon, Apple has a ‘not so fun’ surprise for you.

There is an entire barrage of tape, screws, brackets, and tiny connectors that need to be removed, indicating that the Apple Vision Pro was never intended to the disassembled by anyone except for skilled company repair personnel. With tons of components crammed inside the device, it is no wonder that iFixit will be posting another teardown video in the near future.

It also looks like that anyone who is not a savant when it comes to electronics should steer clear from tearing down the Apple Vision Pro because not only will it void your warranty, but there is a possibility that you accidentally snap a cable, mutilate a connector or damage a screw threading, and end up having nothing more than an expensive paperweight at your disposal.
