Apple released the fourth developer beta builds for its various operating systems a bit later than usual today, most probably hampered by the ongoing AWS-related snags that continue to creep up.
Apple's 4th developer beta builds for iOS 26.1, macOS Tahoe 26.1, iPadOS 26.1, watchOS 26.1, visionOS 26.1, and tvOS 26.1 are now rolling out to developers
Apple typically releases a number of developer beta builds for its various operating systems before shipping out their final versions to customers.
In keeping with its software rollout cadence, the Cupertino giant has just released the fourth developer beta builds for its various products:
- iOS 26.1 beta 4
- iPadOS 26.1 beta 4
- watchOS 26.1 beta 4
- macOS Tahoe 26.1 beta 4
- visionOS 26 26.1 beta 4
- tvOS 26 26.1 beta 4
These builds typically only bring iterative improvements. For instance, the first developer build for iOS 26.1 brought:
- An update to Apple Intelligence with support for Live Translation in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
- The first inklings of a Model Context Protocol (MCP) that would allow various third-party AI agents to interact with Apple's bespoke services and on-device data via a single, standard protocol.
- Improvements to the Liquid Glass effect on the dialer keypad.
- A dedicated scrubber for photos and videos.
- Swipe to change tracks in Apple Music.
Similarly, the third developer build introduced:
- A new Apple TV icon.
- Settings that would enable a feature to forward notifications.
- References to an unreleased wallpaper.
- References to upcoming third-party AI integrations.
- An expansion of Local Capture feature from iPadOS to iOS that allows users to record their own audio and video during a video call.
Now, the fourth developer build for iOS 26.1 allows you to choose a more opaque look for the Liquid Glass effect. Also, you now can disable the swipe gesture on the lock screen that would open the camera app in previous versions, preventing accidental launches of the camera app.
Other features include:
- Apple Intelligence now supports Chinese (traditional), Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese (Portugal), Swedish, Turkish, and Vietnamese languages.
- AirPods Live Translation feature adds support for Chinese (Mandarin simplified and traditional), Italian, Japanese, and Korean languages.
- Apple TV+ rebranded to Apple TV.
