The older iPhone models have been phased out in favor of the iPhone 16e, Apple’s latest entrant that delivers flagship features for a lower price, while also introducing some trade-offs. The technology giant has officially kicked off pre-orders for its most affordable handset, and it starts from $599 in the U.S. for the 128GB version. The company also offers a 256GB and 512GB version, both available to pre-order for $699 and $899, respectively.
With the aforementioned price, you get a 6.1-inch LTPS OLED screen, with Apple completely removing the physical home button from the configuration. Unfortunately, the iPhone 16e does not feature a Dynamic Island, so those who will proceed with the pre-order have to get used to the older notch design. On the inside, we get a binned version of the A18 chipset that is around 15 percent slower than the regular SoC, at least in one benchmarking result, but you get the same number of CPU cores.
Paired with the 6-core CPU and 4-core GPU is 8GB of RAM, meaning that the iPhone 16e immediately qualifies for Apple Intelligence, making it a massive selling point for customers. As for the camera, you get a single 48MP sensor at the back, coupled with a 12MP shooter at the front. A notable change in the technical specifications is that the iPhone 16e does not feature any Qualcomm 5G modem, but it houses Apple’s custom C1 solution. The new baseband chip is said to be power efficient to the point that this device flaunts better battery life than any 6.1-inch iPhone released to date.
The pricing is an area that has received mixed reception, but Apple feels that it has done enough to deliver a solid package. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Cupertino firm is estimated to ship 22 million units of the iPhone 16e in 2025, equating to a minimum of $13.178 billion in revenue for the year. Then again, estimations are one thing, and how global markets respond to the launch is another.
