The iPhone 16 is already reported to be an unexciting launch due to the lack of compelling features, meaning that Apple may not rack up as many shipments as it was previously estimated this year. Now, one analyst has more grim news to share, which may make the company’s investors nervous, and that is losing out on its ‘most valuable company in the world’ status, but that is only if the technology giant’s generative AI services fall below expectations.
NVIDIA may surpass Apple as the most valuable company in the world if generative AI services do not generate significant momentum
It was earlier estimated that Apple would ship between 220 million and 225 million iPhone units for the year. However, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revised his earlier shipment estimations, now believing that the company may only reach 200 million units this year. Even so, the Cupertino giant has the opportunity to bounce back strongly and retain its position as the world’s largest smartphone maker in the world through its generative AI features. Apple’s A18 SoC, which is said to debut in the iPhone 16 series later this year, will reportedly sport an upgraded Neural Engine that will handle iOS 18’s generative features.
Not just this, but Apple is also reported to have incorporated improved microphones into its iPhone 16 family with a higher signal-to-noise ratio. This will be extremely helpful in terms of clarity, as Siri will be able to pick up those voice commands clearly and perform specific functions accurately. There is also word that Apple will preview its chatbot later this year at the WWDC 2024 keynote. Internally, this chatbot is dubbed ‘Apple GPT,’ and should perform similarly to ChatGPT. From the looks of it, Apple is deeply invested in AI, meaning its vast resources and talent pool should aid in developing a suite of features.
先前2024年iPhone出貨的市場共識為2.2-2.25億部,現在已經開始下修,並向我之前預測的2億部靠攏。如果Apple今年無法推出優於市場預期的生成式AI服務,Nvidia的市值將很有可能超越Apple。 https://t.co/t5r8TXXWl9 pic.twitter.com/C9dNmm3yDC

However, much like the demise of ‘Project Titan,’ which was Apple’s self-driving car project, Apple might want to lay off on its lofty ambitions for a while because if its generative AI features do not work as expected, Kuo believes that the company might lose its place as the most valuable company in the world to NVIDIA. We should see Apple’s progress in the future, and we will update our readers on the latest. For now, do you think Apple will impress us with generative AI, or will it fall flat on its face?
