It appears Apple's spree of product launches for the month of March 2026 has not ended yet, with the Cupertino giant announcing the new AirPods Max 2 out of the blue today, replete with the powerful H2 chip, a successive improvement of 1.5x in active noise cancelation (ANC), a new high dynamic range amplifier, adaptive audio, conversation awareness, live translation, and tons of other software features, all for just $549.

The H2 chip is a high-performance system-in-package that is designed for processing audio in Apple's AirPods Max 2 premium headphones. Paired with a new digital signal processing algorithm, the combo enables a 1.5x improvement in ANC vis-à-vis the previous generation, while ensuring that the "sound quality is remarkably clean, rich, and acoustically detailed."

Additionally, the headphones feature a new high dynamic range amplifier that enables improved Spatial Audio content sounds, more accurate and consistent bass response, and more natural-sounding mids and highs.

Apple's new AirPods Max 2 support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio when connected with the included USB-C cable. According to the Cupertino giant, these are the "only headphones that let musicians both create and mix in Personalized Spatial Audio with head tracking."

Also, the AirPods Max 2 come with a ton of intelligent software features:

  1. Adaptive Audio automatically adjusts ANC and Transparency in response to environmental cues, optimizing the audio experience in the process.
  2. Conversation Awareness lowers content volume and reduces background noise when a user starts speaking to someone nearby.
  3. Live Translation feature powered by Apple Intelligence
  4. Voice Isolation uses advanced computational audio powered by the H2 chip to prioritize the human voice during calls, while blocking out ambient noise.
  5. With the Camera Remote feature, users can capture content from their iPhones or iPads at a distance by pressing the headphone's Digital Crown.
  6. Loud Sound Reduction prevents exposure to loud background noise while preserving the sound signature of what the users are listening to.
  7. Personalized Volume automatically fine-tunes the listening experience for users based on their preferences over time.
  8. Siri Interactions allow users to conveniently and privately respond to Siri announcements by simply nodding their head yes or gently shaking their head no.

Apple's AirPods Max 2 start retailing for $549. You will be able to order the new headphones from March 25, with in-store availability scheduled for "early next month."
