Apple is reportedly vying for a more uniform aesthetic on next year's iPhone 18 lineup, if the latest reporting from a well-known tipster pans out.

Apple is reportedly looking to abandon the two-tone look on the backside of its iPhones

According to a recent Weibo post by the Chinese tipster, Instant Digital, Apple might abandon the two-tone look for the iPhone 18 lineup's backside, opting for a single tone finish instead.

On the iPhone 17 variants, Apple chose to apply a slightly different color to the MagSafe charging-related glass cutout, resulting in a color gradient between the glass cutout and the aluminum frame on the back of the latest iPhones, in what is known as the two-tone look.

According to Instant Digital, however, this look might be on its way out, replaced instead with a uniform color finish that eliminates color gradients. Do note, however, that Instant Digital does not have a perfect track record, and his tidbits have turned out to be false on certain occasions.

This then segues into a separate tidbit from another tipster, Digital Chat Station, who recently declared that Apple's upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are slated to undergo a radical redesign, replete with a punch-hole cutout for the front camera, the Face ID-related TrueDepth camera system placed under the screen, a horizontal DECO (camera module structure) for the Pro duo, and a transparent/translucent back cover.

Here is everything that we know about Apple's 2018 lineup:

  1. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are likely to feature 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display, respectively, matching the display sizes found on the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.
  2. The iPhone 18 Pro duo might also sport a stainless steel vapor chamber.
  3. Apple is likely to eliminate the capacitive induction layer within the camera control button of next year's iPhone 18 lineup, retaining only a pressure-sensing layer.
  4. The duo is also expected to sport a three-layer, stacked image sensor.
  5. Apple is testing at least one new color option for the iPhone 18 Pro, with either brown, purple, or burgundy likely to end up as a final color option on Apple's next iPhone lineup.
  6. The iPhone 18 Pro duo is expected to sport the A20 Pro SoC, which will leverage TSMC's 2nm process node and CoWoS (Chip on Wafer on Substrate) packaging, facilitating a tighter integration between the processor, unified memory, and the neural engine.
  7. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will also use Apple's in-house C2 modem.
