Apple introduced the Vision Pro with a hefty price tag earlier this year, and while the company is looking to expand the headset to additional countries, demand for the product is weaker than originally expected. Part of the reason is the device's cost, and given that it is a first-generation product, the company is working to introduce a budget variant in the near future. Alongside a comparatively cheaper version of the Vision Pro headset, Apple is also slated to be working on its highly anticipated Apple Glass, its AR spectacles that have made rounds for a while.
Apple's AR Glasses to launch later than originally expected, as the device rests in the early stage of development
The Vision Pro is Apple's first product that dives into mixed reality and will act as a stepping stone for future products. The more affordable variant of the headset has been all the hype in recent months, but the idea of smart glasses has persisted as well. The development of Apple Glass is still underway, but it appears that the smart spectacles will take its time to launch, as Apple aims to make it lighter, more cost-friendly, and more powerful
According to a new report published by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the Apple Glass is in its early stages of development and will take another few years to see daylight. The Apple Glass could revolve around the same AR functionality as the Vision Pro, but it could house its own set of novelties and possibly a few feature cuts, considering its smaller size and form factor. However, the exact details are scarce at this stage as the device will launch later than expected.
Previously, it was rumored that Apple's smart glasses would launch between 2026 and 2027 at the earliest, but Mark Gurman states that no one in the company believes that the smart glasses will be ready in the coming years. This possibly suggests that the launch could be pushed later due to the device being in its early stage. Apple just launched the Vision Pro, and it will take time to introduce a new product version that could cannibalize it unless certain limitations are put in place.
Gurman believes that the company will wait a few extra years to determine the feasibility of Apple Glasses. The company is currently hiring employees for its Vision Pro Group, which shows that it has aimed its attention on its headset. We have previously reported that Apple Glass will look like a pair of spectacles focusing on augmented reality. The company could be having a hard time fitting Vision Pro technology into a much lighter and smaller frame of spectacles.
There is no exact time frame for the launch of the Apple Glass, and we have also previously reported that the AR spectacle development has stalled. However, since it is in its early stages of development, the launch is imminent, albeit a bit later than expected. We will share additional details on the product, so be sure to stick around for more details.
