It appears Samsung had been hiding a couple of surprises vis-à-vis the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 only to see them unearthed via a timely FCC filing, which delineates the specific modem that would be used within the Apple iPhone Ultra competitor, as well as a few satellite connectivity features.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 will feature a Qualcomm modem, support UWB and satellite connectivity, while also bringing reverse wireless charging and DisplayPort compatibility to the proverbial table

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 has now appeared in an FCC filing ahead of its July debut, revealing:
- A Qualcomm modem.
- Support for Ultra-Wideband (UWB), which unlocks more precise location tracking and interference-resistant connections.
- Wi-Fi 7 and NFC.
- Support for wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.
- Support for satellite connectivity.
- DisplayPort functionality, which transmits high-bandwidth video and audio from your device to an external monitor or TV.
Do note that Samsung typically pairs its in-house modems with its Exynos processors. However, now that we know the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will sport a Qualcomm modem, it is quite likely that the squat foldable will be powered by a Snapdragon SoC.
As we reported recently, Samsung is planning to rebrand the direct successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, while retaining the simpler Galaxy Z Fold 8 appellation for its wider and shorter sibling - previously called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide - meant to go toe-to-toe with the upcoming Apple iPhone Ultra.
According to Ice Universe, Samsung has managed to substantially reduce the appearance of the crease on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 duo, akin to what Oppo has achieved with its Find N6 foldable.
We reported back in January 2026 that Samsung was likely to apply Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) on the top and bottom layers of the display for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 duo as it aims to reduce the dreaded crease by at least 20 percent. But that's not all. According to a South Korean publication, the UTG on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be substantially thicker than the one on the Z Fold 7, coming in at 60μm vs. the 45μm one on the Fold 7. Of course, this added thickness will make the panel more durable, but will come at the cost of a potentially more aggravated display crease.
What's more, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 will weigh 201 grams, and sport a 4,800mAh battery with support for wired charging at 45 watts. It will span a thickness of just 4.5mm when unfolded, and will constitute "the lightest large foldable smartphone ever released by any brand," according to Ice Universe.
Elsewhere, the Fold 8 will come equipped with a new 50MP sensor, while natively supporting the 24MP mode without the need to use Samsung's Camera Assistant app.
