AMD Has Reportedly Enforced a “Biased Distribution” of the RX 9070 Series Among AIBs; ASUS, XFX & PowerColor Receive a Much Higher Allocation

Well, it seems like the distribution of AMD's RX 9070 GPUs among board partners might be biased, as Team Red reportedly divided AIBs into two groups, prioritizing one over the other.

AMD Apparently Divided RX 9070 AIBs Into Two Groups Based On Their Range of Custom Variants & Market Presence

The biggest issue with modern-day GPU launches was mostly likely the supply, given that with both NVIDIA and AMD's current-gen models, we saw massive demand, which wasn't enough to sustain the inventory levels. In light of this, manufacturers had to take strict measures, and in the case of AMD, it is reported that the firm divided its AIBs into two different factions, with one of them getting far less allocation compared to the other. While this is quite common, the way the AIBs are divided is pretty interesting, which we'll discuss.

According to a report by the Board Channels, it is claimed one of the AIB groups is said to be "core AMD partners," with them being responsible for a significant portion of the supply of the RX 9070 series GPUs. The major difference between the two factions is their GPU allocation numbers, and while we are unaware of how AMD has differentiated out AIBs, it is likely through their popularity, range of custom models, and regional presence.

The core AMD partners include Sapphire, XFX, ASUS, PowerColor, and Vastarmor. These names are quite popular globally, but they have a far greater presence in Chinese markets, which is one of the reasons why they received greater importance from Team Red. The second group includes AIBs like Acer, Yeston, Gigabyte, and ASRock. These firms are likely here due to their lesser range of RDNA 4 custom models, and none of them is AMD-exclusive, unlike XFX or PowerColor.

So, for those in the retail market looking for RX 9070 series GPUs, there's a higher chance that you can get models from the more "important" AMD AIB partners. Moreover, with Team Red's selective rebate system, you might find many models from these firms at MSRPs.
