AirTags helped carpenter recover stolen items worth up to $5 million

Having a bunch of AirTags pretty much means that you can effortlessly keep track of your valuable possessions if you have the propensity to misplace them. However, Apple’s circular-shaped trackers have proven to feature immense levels of utility when locating stolen goods, which are worth millions. One carpenter seemingly had enough of the losses and, thanks to the help of these devices and the involvement of the police, managed to recover stolen goods that were valued at up to $5 million.

The carpenter suffered heavy losses twice before, and the third time, he decided to use the AirTags to track down the thieves

An unnamed carpenter in North Virginia had reportedly suffered massive losses as thieves successfully took off with a plethora of tools by breaking into a van on two previous occasions. Since he knew that this was going to be a repeated occurrence, the carpenter decided to take matters into his own hands. He started by purchasing a series of AirTags and placing them in the larger tools that were yet to be stolen but were likely in the criminals' crosshairs.

Sure enough, the thieves returned on January 22 and stole a total of 50 tools, of which some had AirTags neatly tucked away without their knowledge. The carpenter used his iPhone to track down the tools to a storage facility in nearby Howard County. The person probably heard about the previous stories where those who successfully confronted the thieves suffered a grim fate, so he made the smart play and decided not to take on the thieves head-on.

Instead, he got law enforcement involved, who not only found the carpenter’s tools, but their efforts led to the discovery of a massive operation where there were 12 storage locations and over 15,000 tools worth up to $5 million that were stolen. The tools were believed to be taken from locations in North Virginia and Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, Howard County Police Chief Gregory Der told The Washington Post that the thieves have yet to be apprehended, but law enforcement will continue to pursue them.

In these situations, having multiple AirTags is always a plus, and to be honest, they go easy on the wallet too, with a pack of four going for as low as $78 on Amazon. If you live in an area or neighborhood that is not known for the best security, you can use these devices to track down your stolen belongings. However, if you intend to pursue these criminals, we always recommend involving law enforcement personnel as quickly as possible and avoiding any possible confrontations.
