Affleck No Longer Directing Upcoming Batman Movie
In a surprise turn, Affleck today announced that he will no longer be directing the latest Batman movie. While the actor/director will still star in and produce the movie, he has revealed that he didn't think that he could give the film his best performance while also directing. Affleck released the following statement:
“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”
Warner Brothers have yet to formally announce a replacement, but rumours are swirling that Cloverfield and War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves is at the top of Warner's shortlist. Losing a director doesn't look great after DC's already troubled run of movies, let's hope that whoever Warner settles on can help recapture some of that Nolan magic.
Affleck has just wrapped up shooting as Batman for the upcoming Justice League movie, which hits theaters this November.
