007 First Light is launching on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S later this month, but Nintendo Switch 2 users will have to wait a little longer to experience James Bond's new gaming adventure. While the lack of a solid release window beyond a generic Summer has some worried the game has only been delayed to be canceled, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak confirmed this won't be the case.

“It’s running on the Switch 2. We just want to make sure it’s good as it can be. I don’t want to hear it wasn’t a good version,” Abrak said to The Game Business. “To be completely honest, we need a bit more time to get it where we want it to be. We said summer. It’s probably going be late summer. But we’re going to get it out. Bond has a special place on Nintendo. And I promise I will do everything I can, and I can do quite a lot being the CEO, to get that in a great shape.”

While delaying only to cancel a game is an unlikely scenario, it is not like 007 First Light would be the first instance on Nintendo Switch 2. Last year, Take-Two and Gearbox delayed Borderlands 4 by a few weeks before its debut on the current-generation Nintendo system, only to cancel it later. Thankfully, it seems like this case will remain an isolated one for the time being: seeing a James Bond game canceled on a Nintendo system would be terribly disappointing in light of the importance the character has had in Nintendo's history since the days of GoldenEye 007, developed by Rare, which remains one of the best games ever released on the Nintendo 64.

No matter the platform, 007 First Light is set to deliver a very enjoyable experience that will somewhat differ from what IO Interactive has done with the Hitman series. Stealth and combat will flow naturally into each other, and entering combat will not be a failure state, according to Global Brand Manager Laurine Deschamps. As such, it will be very interesting to see how players will help James Bond tackle the many challenges ahead of him.
